This is clarified by Central Government vide notification as mentioned below:
“Central Government of India vide F.No.C.18018/3/2009-ME (P-II) dated 24.8.2011 clarified that the student who got admission before 02.12.2009 shall stand recognized by MCI”.
Such qualified students will be considered to be given recognition by MCI. And can get registered with MCI to become eligible for applying to any government job and hospital in India or practice in any part of India.

Well when it comes to students who have joined the College of Physicians & Surgeons (CPS) of Mumbai or institutes affiliated to College of Physicians & Surgeons (CPS) after December 2, 2009. In such a situation FCPS stands to be given de-recognition by MedicalCouncil of India (MCI), vide notification as mentioned below:
“De-recognized by MCI vide Govt. of India NotificationF.No.C.18018/3/2009-ME (P-II), dated 02/12/2009”.
In such a scenario the students will be losing the opportunities and thus becoming ineligible to be considered for government post or even to practice with restrictions in India, except for the states in India where Fellowship from CPS of Mumbai is given recognition by state medical councils.

The good news to the aspirants is that Maharashtra Medical Council on March 15, 2010 has recognized FCPS from College of Physicians & Surgeons (CPS) of Mumbai, videnotification as mentioned below:
“Vide GR Extraordinary 4-B dated March 15, 2010 through notificationno. PGM.1010/CR-18 (Part 2)/10/EDU-2 read with the MMC Act 1965”

Following in the footsteps of Maharashtra another state of India took the initiative to recognize FCPS in its state. Gujarat Medical Council on August 12, 2011 has given recognition FCPS vide notification as mentioned below:
“Medical Council (GMC) vides GR no. MCG/10/2011/460646/J dated August 26 2011”

Eligibility :
A student desirous of joining a CPS PG Course must posses MBBS or its equivalent qualification recognized by the Medical Council of India.
Candidate must hold Permanent Registration with the Maharashtra Medical Council or the State Medical Council where the CPS courses are recognized prior to enrollment.

Procedure :
The enrollment of the student to CPS will be held twice a year in the month of February and August.
Notice regarding Entrance Examination shall be advertised by the CPS recognized Institutions preferably one month in advance in local news papers along with the number of vacant posts available in the respective subjects.
The candidate is required to acquire a recognized stipendiary resident post at the affiliated institution recognized by CPS in the desirous subjects after qualifying in merit of the Entrance Examination. Selection to be made strictly on the basis of the merit of the entrance examination. Minimum 50% marks will be required to qualify in the merit list.
Along with duly filled enrollment form, candidate has to submit copies of following documents to CPS office for enrollment:
i. MBBS/MCPS Passing certificate,
ii. Internship completion certificate,
iii. Permanent State Medical Council registration.
iv. MBBS/MCPS degree certificate
v. Post holding certificate from recognized institute.
vi. Identity & Address proof (Passport, Adhaar, etc.
vii. Fitness certificate from the Institution head.
The eligibility certificate to continue the course will be issued to the candidate after scrutiny of his/her enrollment form along with all the requisite submitted documents.
Resident house posts are full time stipendiary resident posts recognized by CPS for the subject after inspection and approval of CPS Council.
Students have to attend two lecture series arranged by CPS with minimum 80% attendance for both lecture series is mandatory.
