Why I will not recommend you to study Medicine (MBBS) in Philippines, China, Russia, Ukraine or any other country
You are reading this, Congrats your academic career has been saved from destruction or I can say you have saved yourself from wasting your life and money in something that has no value. So few years ago I was a guy like you who was searching for MBBS in China, Philippines, Russia, Ukraine, etc. And after 2 years, being a student in a foreign medical college, I don’t find any value of the education that I am pursuing here. Leaving that thing aside, now I have decided that I will try to live a “life which has meaning” (Fancy words). So In this article I will be listing few reasons why I suggest you to not pursue medicine from a foreign country.
Education Quality: If you talk about China, though they are having a good infrastructure in terms of tall, well equipped college buildings and hostels but they lack good teachers. First thing First, Majority of Chinese do not understand basic English, so Chinese-origin teacher are not able to communicate with student well, hence resulting into low quality teaching. So many Chinese universities have employed Nepali and Indian teachers in medical colleges who have graduated from the other universities in China. I am not saying that Nepali and Indians are bad teachers but you see they themselves have graduated from China, so how you can expect quality from a teacher who is working for a low wage in China because he is not able to pass Medical Licensing exam or got a job in his home country.
While in Philippines you will be studying in a private medical college that are made just for making money. Ukraine is a country in war. Russia, do I have to mention now they are fallen behind the world because of weak, unstable, inflation inflicted economy.
Unnecessary Things: In China you are given admission directly to a MBBS course but in many universities in China its mandatory to pass HSK (Chinese proficiency test), without passing this exam you will not be awarded a degree. While in Philippines everything is in English but you are enrolled in a Pre-medical course such as BS-Biology or AB-Psychology for 1 and 1/2 years and then you have to pass a National medical Entrance exam. In Russia and Ukraine you too have to learn there local language.
What is Genuine, What is Fake? : If you will be enrolling in any foreign university with the help of an agent you don’t know, what is quality of education their, for example in china local government universities (Chinese medicine system) are not allowed to enroll foreign students but many of them have enrolled a large chunk of students. In Philippines you are not enrolled directly to medicine so the universities enroll a large number of student in the pre-medical course and the students are not sure, how many of them will get admission in medicine.
The Course itself: The term “MBBS” is used to describe undergraduate medicine course in many countries which follows British tradition calling the course by this name. While in USA the undergraduate course is named MD. So while in China they teach everything in Chinese to the local students but for minting foreign currency they have created a course called MBBS (English) of 6 years just to attract students of India, Pakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh. While in Philippines the “MD” undergraduate medicine course is of 4 years, but you need to have a graduate degree or 1 and 1/2 year of pre-med course such as BS-Biology or AB-Psychology before entering medicine.
Agents, the so called God of the students: So you as a human thought that someone is being very nice to you, and after few days you came to know that you met a saint who is helping you to get a fancy degree very easily. See there is a golden rule which I came to know after being cheated multiple times that if someone is being very nice to you and you are getting something that is very hard to achieve very easily, Stop, wait a second , take a deep breath and think twice.
